Meet the mean girl of Booksmart and the good girl from Ma.
ELLE – In December 2017, disaster struck Ojai, California. The state’s largest wildfire on record ravaged the community, ultimately destroying 273,400 acres of land across two counties. Homegrown heroine Diana Silvers was roughly 2,800 miles away, tracking the devastation from a New York University seminar, a class titled “Central Problems in Philosophy.” She was 20 years old, and her father’s house was in the direct path of the blaze. (“The fire was a big climate change wake-up call,” she says.) As she watched its progression in real time, her East Coast classmates intellectualized the tragedy. She remembers one girl saying, “If something burns to the ground, the particles are still there, so technically it still remains.” She found their responses to be disorientingly out-of-touch. Her father was still inside the house.

REFINERY29 – Diana Silvers is a star of the Instagram generation. Although she has only five roles on IMDb, the 21-year-old actress and model already boasts 250,000-plus followers on the platform. It was the hashtag #WLYG — a tag used for model scouting by account @WeLoveYourGenes — that got Silvers noticed by major modeling agency IMG in 2015. Silvers wasn’t seeking modeling representation at the time, nor did she use the scouting hashtag. In fact, Silvers doesn’t know who to thank for throwing the hashtag in her Instagram comments, forever altering her fate.

The 21-year-old launches her career with “Ma” and “Booksmart,” and learned some self-confidence from Olivia Wilde along the way.
WWD – “I’m like a 70-year-old man at heart,” Diana Silvers says as her iPhone shuffles through Pink Floyd. The actress, who is 21 and with a still-sparse IMDB, is clearly green, and a bit nervous at that. But as the breakout roles (and invites for Chanel parties) pile up, she’s learning quickly.
Silvers, who was raised in Los Angeles, is the fifth of six children. Her parents met in Zurich; her mother, who is Swiss, was working as an architect when she met her father, and upon moving to California to be with him gave up her business and life there. Silvers’ family shares two main hobbies: music and tennis. “Everyone plays an instrument and is just stupidly talented,” she says (she spent 10 years studying the cello).
Acting was the one thing that was hers and hers alone.

W MAGAZINE – Diana Silvers is afraid of heights. She mentions this casually, as she poses next to floor-to-ceiling windows on the 39th floor of the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan. But before you get a chance to process that, she’s moved on to her next thought. “Let’s take a picture with the phone,” she declares, heading over to pick up the receiver of a desktop phone sitting nearby. “Hello, Hollywood? Hold please.” She’s joking—and, yet, she’s not entirely incorrect.
In the span of the next seven days, the 21-year-old actress will star in her two biggest films to date—the Blumhouse horror film Ma, in theaters next Friday, and Olivia Wilde’s high school comedy Booksmart—marking a rapid ascent for the actress who, until recently, was a true newcomer to the industry. “When I step outside and think of the caliber of actors I’ve had the privilege of working with, it just blows my mind,” she said. “I’m brand new, and even my first, first thing, which was Cheerleader no. 2 in Glass, my scene was with James McAvoy. Bruce Willis, like, nodded at me! After the first time we filmed something, M. Night Shymalan pulled me aside and said, ‘You have such a magnetic presence on camera.’ And I’m like, ‘Me? I’m just Cheerleader #21.’”
